About
Jason R. Atwood is doctoral student in the Human Development & Education program at the University of California, Berkeley, where he researches the cognitive effects of physical activity, domain-specific psychosocial development processes, and adaptive teaching technologies.
Jason teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on the sociology of sport, philosophy of education, and research methodologies. He co-manages the Cultural Studies of Sport in Education Master’s Degree concentration in the Graduate School of Education, is a special researcher with Berkeley’s Athletic Study Center, and leads projects on the design and evaluation of hybridized learning environments.
As an Education Pioneer Fellow, Jason worked as a policy strategist in the Executive Office of the Mayor of Washington, D.C. He has also been a researcher with Team-Up for Youth, where he produced a literature review on the psychosocial development and academic outcomes of students who participate in out-of-school time sports programs; an operations manager at the charter management organization Envision Schools; and a director at College Track, an after-school, college preparatory program that increases access to higher education in under-resourced communities.
Jason is an avid trail runner, youth running coach, and has been a long-time volunteer counselor with the YMCA. He has an M.A. in Education, also from U.C. Berkeley, and earned a B.A. in both Philosophy and Government from Georgetown University.
