About
I study social insects using theoretical and experimental approaches. My past research has focused on division of labor, task allocation, and pattern formation. Chief amongst my results is that task allocation can work via a self organizing coupled localization diffusion process. I have also shown that current self-organizing models are probably too simple to account for most collective behavior algorithms. I am currently working on a number of projects. I am writing models for and learning electrophysiological methods for studying nest mate recognition in ants, while also writing conceptual reviews of social insect biology that place great emphasis on integrative approaches.
