Graduate Student, English

About

I am a doctoral student in the English department at the University of California, Berkeley, where I study the literature and history of Anglo-Saxon England. My specific interests include: Anglo-Saxon law, medieval legal history, contemporary legal theory (e.g., Carl Schmitt), and continental critical theory & philosophy (e.g., Jean-François Lyotard, Jacques Derrida). Alongside these theoretical interests, my work has been and will continue to be grounded in a philological foundation; linguistics, paleography, and codicology have often led me to and helped me through the most interesting of findings. Past research has included studies of friendship in Anglo-Saxon monasticism and slavery in Anglo-Saxon law.

Outside of academia (though, of course, still within this wonderful website called "academia"), I love good food and wine. Cooking is one of my deepest passions and the study of wine I find to be truly intellectually satisfying. Then, after all the work and study has been completed, one gets to eat and drink. I cannot think of anything better than that!
